DT Daily: Even ‘Morning Joe’ thinks the media has overplayed its hand in epic fashion

Has the mainstream press officially jumped the shark with its over the top coverage of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh? We can’t say for certain one way or the other, but a ton of brows have been furrowed across the country due to the over the top theatrics from the press.

The press has told the nation that decades-old decisions are guaranteed to be overturned if Kavanaugh is concerned, but they have provided nothing in the way of clarity on how they can be so certain about such hyperbolic claims. They have also taken uncorroborated allegations leveled against the nominee at the eleventh hour and treated them as stone cold facts, in spite of the fact that numerous holes in the claims were readily apparent to even those with struggles in the comprehension department.

It has gotten so bad that even programs which are not exactly known for objectivity are crying foul. MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ has been guilty of over the top theatrics throughout the era of President Donald Trump era, but a recent panel discussion shows that even they know the coverage of Kavanaugh has been a bridge too far.

“The one thing we can document and you can document it any number of ways is the president’s constant assault on the media, fake news, has really, really worked. It has sunk in all across the country,” shared show contributor Mike Barnicle during a panel discussion. “There’s been a series of stories about the Supreme Court appointment that have appeared on television and in newspapers that have caused, I think, a lot of Americans in this polarized political atmosphere of ours to stop, pause and say, ‘Hey, this is just a bit too much.’”

That’s a pretty fair assessment. Kavanaugh has been dragged through the mud and then some by the press, who have collectively ratcheted up the holier than thou attitude to ungodly levels. Even Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski can see there’s a serious problem afoot.

“It’s not supposed to be how reporters feel and how media analysts feel at this point in a case like this,” Brzezinski said. “And it’s not even a case yet, although the FBI is looking into it. It’s a hearing. It’s a job interview,” she said. “And what we saw and what I think is playing into this blowback you’re talking about is a lot of members of the media reacting emotionally. Like, for example, did Brett Kavanaugh feel like maybe he was lying? Did it feel like maybe he was lying about drinking? Did it seem like maybe he was lying about blacking out? Did he seem like he was kind of a jerk? Did it seem like he was overly aggressive? Yes, sure, but that does not mean he did it.”

The press has gone out of its way to convict Kavanaugh in the court of public opinion. For reasons that remain unclear, the collective mainstream media seems to believe that its advocacy disguised as journalism is not transparent to average voters. Here’s a breaking news story for them to dig into: it’s beyond transparent, and the industry’s already tarnished reputation has been sullied even further by its blatant and irresponsible bias and partisanship.
